Connections - Scheduling and the Application Process.
Power applications can take time to process there is more info on the application process at Orion http://online.oriongroup.co.nz/connectionservices.
The prewire (first fix) stage of your electrical installation is a good time to let us know you are ready for the permanent connection. Your electrician can be ready for the power to be connected at this time. This will reduce any scheduling issues for getting power connected at a later date in the build.
Connections - to Orion poles.
If the mains cable is to be connected to an Orion pole, ensure the cable is installed to the corner boundary nearest the pole Orion have indicated. Leave enough length at the boundary to reach to the top of the pole. Generally allow ten metres from the base of the pole to the top of the pole.
Connections - to Orion Boxes.
If the mains cable is to be connected to an Orion box, breakout the cable and insulate/heatshrink the tails using a boot for the crutch of the cable, heatshrink the neutral, and install the cable into the Orion box. Make sure there is no bare copper and all ends are insulated.
Connections - Completion of the Certificate of Compliance (CoC).
It is worth emailing us a copy of the completed CoC prior to livening for us to review.
An incorrectly completed CoC may hold up livening the installation at the time we attend site.
If you prefer to leave the completed CoC on site the meterbox is a good location.
The following requirements are extracted from the rules.
Connections - Generation (Solar).
If you intend to install solar panels or similar generation that is grid tied and generates back on to the network you need to notify Orion during the connection process that you are installing generation. There is more information at Orion http://www.oriongroup.co.nz/customers/the-network-code.
Connections - Subdivisions & Easements.
If this is a subdivision or easements are required for installed services, send us a site plan to add to the connection records, the plan should show:
Connections - Load Management.
Orion require all connections both business and residential to control electric water heaters of 100 to 500 litres with a capacity more than 1.2kW, you should make Orion and your Retailer aware of this a the time of application.
Connections - Motors & Welders.
Some motors and welders will require specific starting equipment other than 'direct on line' methods. During the application process make Orion aware of any motors, Orion will assist in these requirements. There is more information at Orion http://www.oriongroup.co.nz/customers/the-network-code.
Connections - Power Supplies for Building Sites (BTS).
While we connect Builders Temporary Supplies we do not keep these in stock. These are usually supplied by your Builder or your Electrician for us to connect. However we are happy to supply a cost for these units, the cost start at around $680.00 excl GST per unit installed.
